At this year’s Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg Isovolta introduced a colour changing bulkhead film in association with Diehl mood lighting.
It’s becoming more common for airlines to use cabin mood lighting to create different atmospheres during the flight including restful day and night ambiences to reduce the effects of jetlag.
Isovolta, a global supplier specialising in aircraft interiors, have recognised the importance of passenger relaxation and have developed a decorative film to compliment and work in harmony with the cabin lighting scenes. The film reacts to the lighting, transforming surfaces throughout the flight, giving passengers comfort and interest during their stay on board.
Different colours and arrangements can be defined within the décor film so airlines could use this to reinforce the brand identity.
Imagine a cinematic wallpaper upon which a scene of enchanting, moving images sends you to the land of sleep………..zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Woodchip walls, embossed wall papers and rough plasterwork, all fads of their time whose existence today depict a bygone age. These techniques may have been popular in the past to hide uneven walls but this textured surface trend doesn’t care if the wall is flat to start with. The new textured surface is for interest not purpose, to stir the imagination and add another dimension to a space. Walls covered with such texture, no longer seem to be something uniform and are often inspired by nature.

This year’s surface design show, held earlier in February, demonstrated that the number of materials and methods you can use to create tactile texture is boundless. Ceramics tiles acquire structured shapes, concrete is cast with intricate graphics, thin slivers of wood or stone are layered and plastic forms are used as modular installations.

Tiles can also be used as wall decoration rather than wall coverings. Decorating only fragments of the wall, as Patrycja Domanska has done with her ‘Edgy tiles’, will create a dramatic contrast between a smooth even surface and the intricate pattern.

Find below images of key surface trends some from The Surface Design 2012.
