BermudAir aisle class suite
A premium class passenger experience for the airline’s Embraer E175 aircraft, operating from the USA to Bermuda
We were approached to support a very rapid design program to develop the interior of an Embraer E175 aircraft, taking it from a sixty to a thirty-seat layout. The cabin has been overhauled and updated, from lighting, bulkheads etc to the hero of most cabins, seating. Key to this was the inspired idea to take an economy double seat, remove the outboard passenger position and replace this with side furniture and an aisle partition, giving the seat the manner of a modern Business product. Further, the new seat offers greater levels of privacy and comfort, enhanced side furniture and additional stowage.

Most significantly for this program, as borne out by winning both Crystal Cabin and Yacht & Aviation design awards, the approach to the seat design was re-use rather than re-make, demonstrating circularity in design that has the highest sustainable credentials.
Alongside this we added an emotional touch point to tie the aircraft into the region. The lighting, which bathes the cabin in blue light on the way to USA, changes to pink light on the way back to Bermuda. If you’ve ever caught a bus there you will know why (the buses that run outwards from the capital Hamilton use markers coloured blue and on return, they are pink).
Working together with the team at Bermudair, Factorydesign has enjoyed the very best kind of collaborative cabin design program and the striking new cabin speaks volumes about this approach.
