Delta Air Lines domestic first class cabin for their A321neo

Starting another industry trend with the first regional business class seat to have headrest privacy wings.

Following our work for Delta Air Lines on four wide-body, long-haul business class seat programs, we were asked to design a Domestic First Class seat for their narrow body fleet, the Airbus A320neo in particular.

Understandably, seat manufacturers would prefer to make the same product again and again while, conversely, airlines are all striving to maximise the difference between them and their competition, deliver the strongest possible brand message and an engaging passenger experience.  When there is the strength of an airline like Delta Air Lines behind a request to make significant customisation changes, that request can be very persuasive.  As it was in this case.

This seat is a highly customised Recaro Cl4710, with significant innovations, some of which have are becoming must-haves in regional business class and premium economy.

Responding to Delta’s determination to maximise opportunities for privacy wherever possible, new features where designed and added to the seat.  These include, increasing the back shell height (something else appearing across all classes), optimising the overall seat width, adding a centre privacy divider with PED stowage, improving stowages including water bottle stowage for TTOL, and a rear laptop and literature stowage between the footwells.  However, the single most influential development are the striking privacy wings either side of the headrest, and including a soft wall feature.
